People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok declared Tuesday that President Lee Jae-myung and the Democratic Party of Korea would soon face a public reckoning.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Jang criticized the Democratic Party's push to secure the chairmanship of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, arguing the move was ultimately aimed at canceling Lee's ongoing trials. "The reason the Democratic Party is desperate to take the judiciary committee chairmanship is ultimately to get Lee Jae-myung's trials canceled," he wrote. "They spent two full years letting Choo Mi-ae and Seo Yeong-gyo tear apart the judicial system, and since that wasn't enough, now they want a special prosecutor to cancel the trials."

Jang went on to predict that if the Democratic Party took the committee chairmanship, it would backfire. "If they do, the day Lee Jae-myung goes to prison will only come sooner — and he won't go alone; he'll take the whole Democratic Party with him," he said.

He also said Lee's approval rating had crossed a "dead cross" and that the Democratic Party's approval rating was in freefall. "The public's reckoning is not far off," he added.
