Andong, in North Gyeongsang Province, has adopted "Only Andong, Only Citizens" as the governing slogan for its 9th elected-term administration, the city announced Tuesday.
The city said it will retain the administrative goals and policy directions of the 8th elected term to ensure policy continuity.
While the 8th-term slogan, "Great Citizens, New Andong," focused on laying the groundwork for change and growth, the 9th-term slogan reflects the city's commitment to building on existing achievements and delivering tangible results that residents can feel.
The city cited its major accomplishments under the 8th term as including the designation of three special zones under the national local-era initiative — a first among all local governments in the country — the securing of a biotech national industrial complex, selection as a national cultural city, surpassing an annual budget of 2 trillion won ($1.3 billion), and the partial lifting of natural environment conservation restrictions around dam areas.
For the 9th term, the city plans to pursue the early completion of the biotech national industrial complex, the establishment of a national medical school, and the construction of a circular rail network linking the Mungyeong–Andong central inland railway with a new airport.
"Together with our citizens during the 8th term, we laid the foundation for Andong's new leap forward," Mayor Kwon Ki-chang said. "In the 9th term, under the governing philosophy of 'Only Andong, Only Citizens,' we will do our utmost to build on the achievements of the 8th term and create changes and results that our citizens can truly feel."
