97 campaign pledges mapped out, covering redevelopment, AI administration and new landmark destinations
The transition committee for the Dongjak-gu district mayor's office completed its review of 97 campaign pledge projects for the 9th elected-term administration and formally dissolved Monday.
The final pledge briefing and dissolution ceremony were held that morning in a shared conference room at the Noryangjin office of Dongjak-gu, attended by district mayor-elect Ryu Sam-young, transition committee members, advisory committee members and relevant civil servants.
The projects presented included 97 campaign pledges Ryu made during the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections, four new initiatives identified by the transition committee, and 116 key departmental projects.
The most closely watched pledges centered on "rapid redevelopment in line with residents' wishes."
A redevelopment task force — to be established as Ryu's first official act in office — will bring together project operators, specialists in urban planning, urban renewal, law and taxation, the relevant Dongjak-gu departments, and a conflict-management officer from the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The task force will hold on-site meetings at least once a month to help accelerate redevelopment projects.
Additional measures proposed include educating project operators on ways to shorten timelines and pursuing parallel approval of project implementation plans and management and disposal plans to cut the overall redevelopment period as much as possible.
For smaller complexes of 500 units or fewer, the district plans to coordinate with other autonomous districts and ask the Seoul Metropolitan Government to delegate various redevelopment-related licensing and permitting powers to the district mayor.
On AI-based administration — envisioned as the future of Dongjak-gu governance — the committee announced plans to launch a dedicated unit reporting directly to the district mayor, tentatively named the AI Administration Promotion Team.
The team is expected to identify AI administrative innovation tasks through expert consultation and serve as a control tower coordinating AI-related projects across all Dongjak-gu departments.
Pledges aimed at making Dongjak-gu a must-visit destination also took shape.
A proposed Dongjak Tower on the site of Yongyangbongjeojeong Park would feature a panoramic Han River observation facility and exhibition space, with the district committing to develop diverse financing options to bring the project to fruition.
A separate plan calls for transforming a 250,000-square-meter area around Sangdo Station, Chung-Ang University and Soongsil University into a destination rivaling Sinchon and Hongdae, through a district-unit plan that organically integrates residential, commercial, university and industrial functions.
At the dissolution ceremony, Ryu thanked the committee for its work. "It was a short period of just over 20 days, but you carefully crafted a pledge roadmap for us," he said. "I will make good use of the committee's vision to brighten Dongjak and energize its residents."
Since its launch on June 8, the transition committee has held 16 meetings — including work briefings and subcommittee pledge sessions — and conducted 15 on-site visits.
Ryu will formally take office as the 9th elected-term district mayor of Dongjak-gu at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the main auditorium of the Dongjak-gu office, in a ceremony the district is calling a "citizen appointment ceremony."
