The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC), led by President Yoo Seung-min, will host a special exhibition and docent program to mark the 60th anniversary of Taereung Athletes' Village, inviting the public to reflect on the facility's history and the spirit of the national team athletes who trained there.
Taereung Athletes' Village opened on June 30, 1966, as South Korea's first comprehensive national team training facility. It played a central role in developing elite athletes and shaping the country's modern sports landscape. While national team training functions have since moved to the Jincheon National Athletes' Village, Taereung continues to be recognized for its historical and cultural value as a cradle of Korean sport.
The Korea Sports Museum, operated by the KSOC, will open the special exhibition July 27 to commemorate the anniversary, accompanied by a docent program. The exhibition will trace the construction of Taereung Athletes' Village, document how national team athletes trained there after its opening, and highlight the broader development of Korean sport.
The Korea Sports Museum will also run a docent program through Aug. 28, combining the special exhibition with guided tours of Taereung Athletes' Village during the summer school holiday period. The program operates on weekdays by reservation.
