President Lee Jae Myung to Send Congratulatory Message; Invitation to Redevelopment Association Heads Draws Attention
Ryu Sam-young will be inaugurated as the ninth directly elected district mayor of Dongjak-gu on Tuesday.
The transition committee for the ninth directly elected Dongjak-gu district mayor said the inauguration ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. that day in the grand auditorium on the fourth floor of the Dongjak-gu district office.
The most distinctive feature of the ceremony is a "residents' appointment ritual."
Inspired by President Lee Jae Myung's national appointment ceremony, the event will see five Dongjak-gu residents — one each representing children, teenagers, youth, middle-aged adults and senior citizens — present Ryu with an official appointment certificate on behalf of the district's residents.
At the national appointment ceremony held at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul on Aug. 15 last year, 80 citizen representatives presented President Lee with a "Certificate of Light."
President Lee, who recruited Ryu as the third talent acquisition during his tenure as leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is expected to send a congratulatory message to the inauguration.
The theme of "a district mayor welcomed by residents" will be woven throughout the event.
The ceremony will be hosted by KBS announcer Jo Chung-hyeon, a Dongjak-gu resident and graduate of Chung-Ang University, which is located in the district.
In a segment titled "What We Hope for from Our New District Mayor," co-hosted by Jo and the mayor-elect, Ryu will open wish notes submitted in advance by attendees and respond to them in an open exchange.
Among the roughly 700 guests invited to the ceremony are about 90 heads of redevelopment associations, signaling Ryu's intent to move quickly on redevelopment projects in the district.
The inauguration ceremony will be livestreamed on the official YouTube channel of Dongjak-gu.
