4,500 bottles of water available from July 1 at the Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center — a heat-season health protection project now in its sixth year
The Eunpyeong-gu district office in Seoul (district mayor Kim Mi-kyung) will launch a bottled water sharing campaign for outdoor mobile workers starting July 1, as temperatures climb during the summer heat season.
Now in its sixth consecutive year, the campaign aims to protect the health of mobile workers during the hottest months and prevent heat-related illness. Eunpyeong-gu will distribute approximately 4,500 bottles of Jeju Samdasoo water, sponsored by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corp.
The bottles will be stocked in a freezer at the entrance of the Eunpyeong-gu Workers' Comprehensive Support Center, with each mobile worker eligible to receive one bottle per day. The center will distribute water on weekdays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Partners in this year's campaign include the Ministry of Employment and Labor, the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency's Seoul Metropolitan Headquarters, the Metropolitan Area Meteorological Administration, the Community Chest of Korea, the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corp., the Korean Network of Irregular Workers' Organizations, and the Seoul City Labor Center Council.
In addition to the water distribution, Eunpyeong-gu operates labor counseling and rights-relief services through the Workers' Comprehensive Support Center. The center provides free labor consultations every Tuesday and Thursday to help protect workers' rights and interests.
"I hope mobile workers can get through the hot summer more safely," district mayor Kim said. "We will continue to work toward protecting workers' right to health and creating a safe working environment."
