Actor Choi Hyun-wook has spoken about what led him to give up his dream of becoming a baseball player and pursue acting instead.

Appearing Saturday on the YouTube channel Ddeunddeun's fan meeting series "Fan Meeting Is Just an Excuse," Choi said he played baseball until he was 17 and in his first year of high school, adding that he still plays recreational baseball from time to time. He said he only participates in leagues whose rules allow him to do so.

On why he quit baseball, Choi said, "I had surgery and went through rehabilitation thinking I could come back, but I felt I had hit my limit, so I stopped." He also named Lotte Giants pitcher Kim Jin-wook as a former teammate who went on to succeed.

"After quitting baseball, I was wondering what to do with myself, and I watched some movies and cried a lot," Choi said. "They were 'Battleship Island' and 'Along with the Gods.' That was what made me start acting." Fellow guest Choi Min-sik quipped in response, "So none of my films made the list," drawing laughter.

Choi also said, "Working with you made it even more fun. When you're there and then you're gone, all the staff feel a void."

Choi made his debut in a web drama series in 2019 and has since appeared in "Taxi Driver," "Racket Boys," "Weak Hero Class 1" and "Twenty-Five Twenty-One."
