Actor Choi Woo-shik has been caught up in racism allegations after a Black fan claimed he deliberately ignored her at a Paris fashion show. His representatives have yet to issue an official statement.
On Friday, a Black woman posted a video on TikTok saying Choi had snubbed her the previous day at the AMI Paris Spring/Summer 2027 show during Paris Fashion Week.
The woman, who described herself as an actor and writer, said she had "the worst experience" at the Paris fashion show. "I don't usually jump to calling something racism," she said. "But this incident still has my hands shaking."
She said she had brought a picket sign and poster bearing Choi's name to the event, but that he "reached over my head, signed things for other people, and just left." She added that she was the only Black person in the immediate area at the time.
Choi's face was blurred in the original video, but footage shot from other angles spread online and identified him as the person involved.
However, counter-evidence has also emerged. Videos from the scene show Choi signing autographs for other Black fans without hesitation. Eyewitnesses said the area was crowded with fans pressing in all at once, and that Choi was signing items at random.
Choi had previously shown public support for the Black community, posting a message on social media backing the "Blackout Tuesday" (#blackouttuesday) campaign following the death of George Floyd in 2020.
Choi attended the AMI Paris event on Thursday as part of Paris Fashion Week. He is currently filming "Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid," a tvN drama series.
