The Bareu-ge Salgi Movement Central Council reaffirmed its commitment to building a drug-free South Korea on World Anti-Drug Day.

The council announced Friday that it held a 'ZERO Drugs' national campaign declaration ceremony Thursday morning at its headquarters meeting room. The event was organized to coincide with June 26 — designated as World Anti-Drug Day — to raise public awareness about the spread of narcotics and launch a nationwide eradication movement calling for broad citizen participation.

The ceremony was attended by acting chairman Park Mu-yeol and other central executives, along with Park Tae-sun, chairman of the Seoul chapter, and Seoul chapter executives.

Through the declaration, the council outlined four key action priorities: raising public awareness to prevent the spread of narcotics, promoting a prevention culture targeting youth and young adults, advancing community- and family-centered practice campaigns, and driving anti-drug campaigns through the organization's nationwide network.

The Bareu-ge Salgi Movement is a national civic organization that has promoted grassroots lifestyle campaigns across 17 cities and provinces and 233 city, county and district chapters, guided by three core values — truth, order and harmony. The council said it would take a leading role in building broader social consensus around drug eradication following the declaration.

"Drugs not only destroy individual lives but are a grave social problem that threatens families, communities and ultimately the nation's future," acting chairman Park said. "The Bareu-ge Salgi Movement will lead the way in building a drug-free South Korea, drawing on the commitment of our nationwide organization and members."

Seoul chapter chairman Park Tae-sun said the organization would work to spread civic awareness about drug eradication starting from Seoul, the nation's capital, and actively pursue community-based prevention campaigns. "We hope this declaration serves as an opportunity for all citizens to recognize anew the seriousness of the drug problem and take action," he said.

The council plans to work with chapters across the country to sustain anti-drug campaigns, public awareness activities and community-driven practice movements, building on the momentum of Thursday's declaration.
