Provincial agricultural institute to supply 40,000 seeds of 2 'Bogopa' varieties to growers and educational institutions from kindergartens to universities
Seeds for potted cherry tomatoes, which have been drawing growing interest, will be distributed free of charge to farms and schools.
The South Chungcheong Province Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced Friday it will supply 40,000 seeds across two varieties of its potted cherry tomato "Bogopa" to farming households and educational institutions.
The two varieties — "Bogopa" and "Bogopa Yellow," both developed by the institute — will be distributed at 20,000 seeds each.
The compact plants are suited to small-space cultivation, making them highly practical for limited areas. They have also attracted attention in therapeutic farming and as hands-on educational crops.
Applications will be accepted until supplies run out. Eligible recipients include kindergartens, elementary, middle and high schools, universities, corporations, organizations and farming households.
Public institutions may apply by submitting an official letter to the institute's fruit and vegetable research center. Corporations, organizations and farming households can apply through their local agricultural technology center before submitting the required documentation.
Ahn Jeong-ho, head of the tomato team at the institute's fruit and vegetable research center, said the institute would work to steadily produce and distribute high-quality potted tomato seeds so they can be widely used not only by growers but also in educational and hands-on learning settings.
