The task force for Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province's hydrogen specialized complex will meet Saturday at the global hall conference room on the first floor of the second provincial government complex in Gangneung to discuss strategies for attracting and retaining businesses.
The task force's subcommittee comprises 24 hydrogen industry experts drawn from academia and the private sector. It supports development of the hydrogen complex through three working groups covering general infrastructure, research and development, and corporate innovation and workforce training.
The meeting was convened to review progress on the Donghae-Samcheok hydrogen specialized complex and to work out detailed implementation plans, building on corporate attraction and research and development initiatives discussed at the first subcommittee session.
Participants will share updates on ongoing corporate recruitment efforts and agency-level business support activities, and will examine ways to improve conditions for companies moving into the complex — including identifying new incentives for prospective tenants.
The committee will also discuss institutional support measures to boost the complex's development, including identifying special regulatory exemptions that reflect on-site challenges faced by businesses and improving regulations governing the site and move-in processes.
In addition, the subcommittee will review how priority research and development projects — identified at the previous meeting as follow-up tasks — align with the complex's broader goals, and will finalize detailed plans for advancing those projects.
"This subcommittee meeting is an opportunity to flesh out a development plan for the specialized complex so that corporate move-ins and research and development projects can be organically linked, building on the tasks discussed at the last meeting," said Park Yu-sik, director of the future industries bureau at Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province. "We will work to build move-in conditions that businesses can actually feel, and to strengthen the execution needed for the Gangwon hydrogen specialized complex to establish itself as a key hub for South Korea's hydrogen storage and transportation industry."
