New installations of the Starbucks app have fallen by nearly half in just two weeks.
According to Mobile Index data released Wednesday, the app recorded 22,783 new installs in the week of June 15–21, down 5,701 from 28,484 the previous week (June 8–14). Compared with the first week of June (June 1–7), when installs reached 43,540, the figure has dropped 47.7 percent. In the week of May 11–17, before the so-called "Tank Day" controversy, weekly installs stood at 48,441.
Estimated payment totals over the same period, however, remained broadly in line with the prior week. Estimated credit and debit card spending at Starbucks in the week of June 15–21 came to 22.78 billion won ($14.8 million), nearly identical to 22.76 billion won the week before. Compared with the first week of June, when payments reached 24.21 billion won, the figure edged down 5.9 percent. Against the May 11–17 week, when spending totaled 32.16 billion won, the decline was 29.1 percent.
