Ministry shares metadata structuring, data-linkage cases with international community

South Korea's Ministry of Statistics has introduced its data quality management framework and metadata innovation initiatives to OECD member countries, showcasing the country's preparations for the AI era.

A ministry delegation led by Deputy Minister Lee Myeong-ho attended the 23rd OECD Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy in Paris on June 22 and 23 (local time), sharing South Korea's data innovation policies with member states.

The OECD Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy is an annual meeting that brings together heads of statistical agencies from member countries and international organizations to discuss global statistics and data policy issues and chart future directions.

At the meeting, Lee presented the ministry's ongoing project to build AI-friendly metadata structures and its development of a quality management framework aimed at expanding data linkage and use. South Korea's proactive efforts to enhance data reliability and usability as AI adoption continues to grow were highlighted as a key case study.

The ministry has focused on raising the value of public data through standardization and quality management, and on building a data ecosystem capable of supporting AI-based analysis and policy development.

"There was considerable international interest in South Korea's experience of proactively addressing data quality, metadata and statistics in the age of AI transformation," Lee said. "We will continue to actively participate in global discussions on data innovation and reflect those insights in domestic policy improvements."
