Couple's self-built three-story house revealed on SBS 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2'
Husband designed home himself; hot-pink exterior draws laughs
Actor Choi Yeo-jin, 42, drew attention after revealing on television the three-story newlywed home she and her husband Kim Jae-wook built themselves in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province.
Former basketball player turned broadcaster Seo Jang-hoon quipped that the house "looks like a motel from far away."
The couple's daily life as first-year newlyweds was featured on Monday's episode 444 of SBS's "Same Bed, Different Dreams 2."
The two moved into the three-story home they built in Gapyeong. "We finally have a house of our own," Choi said, visibly moved.
The couple lived in a tent and a caravan throughout the year it took to complete the house.
"I built it myself as the owner-builder, without a general construction company," Kim said. "I drove the excavator myself and designed everything myself."
The second and third floors are wrapped in bright pink on all exterior walls. "My husband painted a container hot pink when he came to Gapyeong, and it became a talking point," Choi said. "That's when he fell in love with hot pink."
Seo drew laughs with his response. "It's really pretty, but from far away it looks like a motel. I feel like a stranger might walk up and ask if there are rooms available," he joked.
On the first floor, a large solid-wood table takes center stage. "The first-floor table was my husband's idea," Choi said. "The kitchen sink is one of a kind, too — we didn't buy a ready-made one. It was custom-built to fit our height."
The second-floor living room features a ceiling nearly 9 meters high and floor-to-ceiling windows that give the space a wide-open feel.
"I think Jang-hoon oppa will have to come over whenever we need to change a light bulb," Choi teased. She also got laughs from fellow guest Kim Tae-sul, a former basketball player, telling him, "You could play basketball in here."
Choi made her debut in the 2004 KBS drama series "I'm Sorry, I Love You" and has since appeared in "Surgeon Bong Dal-hee" and "Emergency Couple." She married sports businessman Kim Jae-wook, seven years her senior, in June last year.
