Service works with overseas-issued Visa cards; Vietnam customers served first

Shinsegae Duty-Free said Wednesday it has introduced NanuPay, an installment payment service that lets foreign tourists pay using Visa cards issued abroad, at its Myeong-dong store. It is the first time a Korean retailer has launched an installment payment service using overseas-issued credit cards.

The company developed NanuPay in partnership with Korean fintech firm DealMe. Customers need only a Visa card issued abroad — no separate app download or new card issuance is required. The service gives international customers a more flexible way to pay for duty-free purchases.

Duty-free shopping tends to involve high-ticket categories such as cosmetics, fashion, watches and jewelry, and the option to pay in installments is expected to ease the financial burden on shoppers. The service is currently available to customers from Vietnam and will expand to the Incheon Airport store.

"We will continue to expand our payment services and customer convenience programs so that global customers can enjoy duty-free shopping with ease," a Shinsegae Duty-Free official said.
