Gwangyang Steelworks rented out an entire water park ahead of the summer heat season to host a welfare event for its employees, the company said.

The outing, held June 19 at the Yeosu Diocean Water Park, drew about 1,800 participants. The steelworks booked the venue exclusively so attendees could enjoy the facilities in a more comfortable setting.

The steelworks chose June 19 — one day before the water park's official opening for the season on June 20 — and opened the event not only to employees but also to their spouses, children, colleagues, friends and acquaintances, drawing a strong response.

Choi Geon-a, a supervisor in the steelworks' production technology division, said the company's exclusive booking made it far easier to spend a relaxed day off with family. "This water park is usually too crowded to visit comfortably, but thanks to the company reserving it for us, we could enjoy a real holiday with our families," he said. "I hope events like this are held more often."

Kim Ra-i, a daughter of one of the employees, said she was happy to play in the water with her parents. "I'd love it if we could visit other places together too," she added.

In April, Gwangyang Steelworks also exclusively booked Kids Lara, a children's career-experience theme park in Hwasun-gun, South Jeolla Province, and invited employees and their children — an event that drew positive reviews as well.

A company official said the steelworks plans to continue organizing a variety of family-oriented events to help employees achieve a satisfying work-life balance and build a family-friendly workplace culture.
