President Lee Jae Myung has appointed Park Ji-young, a former prosecutor who served on the insurrection special prosecutor team, as secretary for judicial affairs under the Cheong Wa Dae civil affairs office.

According to Cheong Wa Dae, Park received her formal appointment Sunday and began reporting to work that day.

The secretary for judicial affairs post was created under the Lee administration's civil affairs office to oversee the overall design of the judicial system, including prosecution reform. It had been vacant since Lee Jin-guk, the previous secretary, submitted his resignation earlier this year after eight months in the role.

Park graduated from Supia Girls' High School in Gwangju and Yonsei University's law department before passing the bar exam (39th bar exam class, 29th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute). She began her career as a prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors' Office in 2000 and served until 2023.

She was the first woman to serve in the prosecution division of the Ministry of Justice.

During the Moon Jae-in administration, she led the prosecution reform task force as a research prosecutor at the Supreme Prosecutors' Office in 2020. After leaving the prosecution service as head of the trial division at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office, she joined law firm Bae, Kim & Lee.

From June last year, she served as a deputy special prosecutor on the insurrection special prosecutor team that investigated former President Yoon Suk Yeol.
