'Leading environmental education and carbon neutrality efforts for future generations'
Bong chaired the Environment and Water Resources Committee in the first half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council
Seoul Metropolitan Council member Bong Yang-soon (Democratic Party of Korea, Nowon 3) received the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy minister's award at the 4th Korea Children's Awards ceremony, held Saturday at the aT Center Exhibition Hall 2 in Yangjae-dong, Seoul.
Bong served as chair of the Environment and Water Resources Committee during the first half of the 11th Seoul Metropolitan Council, where she played an active role in advancing environmental policies — including climate crisis response, carbon neutrality efforts and improvements to everyday living environments.
She has also focused on expanding environmental education for future generations and building a sustainable city through a range of legislative activities. Bong secured a third consecutive term in the June 3 local elections, reaffirming public trust in her work.
In her acceptance remarks, Bong said, "Responding to the climate crisis and creating a sustainable environment is no longer a choice — it is the responsibility of all of us." She added that she would approach her legislative duties with a greater sense of responsibility in working toward environmental conservation, carbon neutrality and a sustainable society for future generations.
"I will also work to build the social foundations that allow children to learn about and practice environmental stewardship," she said. "I will do my utmost to pass on a clean and safe environment to the next generation."
