'Love In Seocho' marks artist's first collaboration with a Korean public institution

Seoul's Seocho-gu district will install three sculptures by internationally recognized installation artist Jaime Hayon at Gangnam Station under the title "Love In Seocho." The district announced Monday that a showcase unveiling the works for the first time will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the start of Chemi Street near Gangnam Station. Hayon, who is Spanish, has designed furniture and lighting for brands including Swarovski, Fritz Hansen and Parachilna. His works have been exhibited at major galleries, museums and art fairs around the world. In South Korea, his work was introduced at the Daelim Museum in 2019. The three sculptures — titled "Love," "With" and "Luminous" — will be installed around Exit 10 of Gangnam Station. Created through Hayon's first collaboration with a Korean public institution, the works depict figures exchanging hearts to express love, connection and warm human bonds.

The showcase will proceed under the theme "Love In Seocho: A Gift of Love and Beautiful Moments in Seocho." The program opens with a brass band performance, followed by an introduction to Hayon and his merchandise, and a lineup of cultural events including fusion gugak and a Namsadangpae troupe performance.

"These sculptures go beyond simple installation art — they will serve as a tourism hub connecting foot traffic at Gangnam Station to local commercial districts and tourism resources," Seocho-gu Mayor Jeon Seong-su said.
