45 agenda items to be reviewed, including first supplementary budget of 2026

The 8th Ulju-gun Council opened the first plenary session of its 245th extraordinary session Monday, marking the start of its final legislative term as it wraps up four years of council activity. The extraordinary session runs through June 25, spanning 11 days.

During the session, the council will deliberate and vote on 45 agenda items in total, including the first supplementary budget proposal for 2026, nine ordinance and rule bills introduced by lawmakers, and executive-submitted ordinances, consent motions and cooperation reports.

The agenda also includes measures aimed at laying the groundwork for a smooth launch and stable operations of the incoming 9th Assembly — among them, an ordinance on confirmation hearings for Ulju-gun Council appointments, a rule on member disciplinary procedures, and a partial amendment to the ordinance governing overseas travel by council members.

Council Speaker Choe Gil-yeong urged members in his opening remarks to scrutinize the supplementary budget carefully. "This supplementary budget is the 8th Assembly's final promise to the residents of the county, so please make sure every won goes where it is truly needed," he said.

County Chief Lee Sun-geol presented the first supplementary budget at the plenary session. The budget rises by 104.6 billion won — up 8.8 percent from the original budget of 1.1871 trillion won (about $781 million).

Key allocations include 27.8 billion won in livelihood stabilization funds — of which 27.2 billion won goes toward a victim support fund for high fuel prices — 5.5 billion won for the establishment of Ulju Hospital, 800 million won for remodeling the Western Disability Welfare Center, 400 million won for construction of a southern branch of the Comprehensive Child Care Support Center, 3.6 billion won for a public parking lot in the Cheongsang district, 2.7 billion won for the Onsan urban regeneration New Deal project, 2.6 billion won for river and stream maintenance, and 1.4 billion won for the Woori Neighborhood Clean Air Package project.
