Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun said the city would provide "all possible administrative support" to help affected businesses and workers recover as quickly as possible following the official classification of the Seonggok-dong factory fire as a social disaster.

The city held a disaster safety countermeasures headquarters meeting June 12 at the city hall's fourth-floor emergency operations center, where officials deliberated and voted on whether to designate the Seonggok-dong factory fire as a social disaster, the city announced Monday.

The meeting was convened in response to a large fire that broke out June 7 at a complex near 727-11 Seonggok-dong, damaging 25 businesses and causing significant harm to the local community. The aim was to establish a framework for swift recovery and administrative support for the affected companies.

The disaster safety countermeasures headquarters voted to classify the Seonggok-dong factory fire as a social disaster. The designation gives the city a more systematic and efficient basis for providing recovery assistance and a range of administrative support to the affected businesses.
