So Jin-gwang, an honorary professor of public administration at Gachon University and poet, was named the fourth chairman of the Korea Culture and Arts Solidarity at the organization's extraordinary general meeting on Saturday.
The Korea Culture and Arts Solidarity is a cultural and arts organization established in 2012, built on the foundation of "Literary Space," a monthly literary magazine first published in 1989. The monthly publication is one of the longest-running literary journals in South Korea and has produced more than 1,000 writers. Debut authors and literary figures serve as members, contributing to the development of Korean literature.
In his inaugural address, So said "culture is the nutrient that sustains the health of society." He added that he would create diverse opportunities for members to enjoy creative activities without burden and expand programs such as writing competitions targeting elementary, middle and high school students as well as those aged 65 and older.
So previously served as dean of the Graduate School of Social Policy and vice president at Gachon University. He has also held the posts of president of the Korean Association for Local Government Studies, president of the Korean Regional Development Association, and chairman of the Saemaul Undong Central Council.
