Oliver Tree, the American singer-songwriter known for his distinctive hairstyle and flamboyant performances, died at 32 after a helicopter collision in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The helicopter carrying Oliver Tree collided midair with another aircraft over the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood in southwestern Rio de Janeiro on Monday, according to the New York Post, the AP and other international outlets. Both helicopters plunged into a nearby electric vehicle parking lot, setting about 20 vehicles on fire. All six people on board were killed.

The victims, in addition to Oliver Tree, were identified as passengers Lucas Vignale, Gaspar Prim — known as Argentine YouTuber "Gaspi" — and Lucas Brito Chaves, along with pilots Alexandre Souza and Charles Marcillac. Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision.

Oliver Tree had been in the middle of "The World's First World Tour," a 30-country, seven-continent run. He had completed a performance in São Paulo last week and was scheduled to play Lisbon, Portugal, on July 13.

Born in Santa Cruz, California, he made his industry debut at 17, collaborating with Skrillex, Jez Dead and others. He released the independent album "Splitting Branches" in 2013, then stepped back from performing to study music technology.

He returned in 2020 with his first studio album "Ugly is Beautiful," scoring the platinum single "Life Goes On." He built an international following on YouTube through an exaggerated on-screen persona and visually striking music videos.

In South Korea, tracks including "Miss You" and "Life Goes On" gained traction through TikTok and YouTube Shorts. His monthly listener count on Spotify exceeded 11 million.
