Inauguration ceremony held Monday morning at Mapo Central Library's Majung Hall; Hwang In-guk, chairman of the Korea Youth Foundation, to lead the committee with proven leadership; panel draws from across society with focus on 'generation, community, integration' and 'youth, innovation, future'
The transition committee for the Mapo-gu district chief position, tasked with charting a new course for Mapo-gu in the 9th elected term, officially launched Monday.
At an appointment ceremony held at 11 a.m. at Majung Hall in Mapo Central Library, Mapo-gu District Chief-elect Yoo Dong-gyun presented appointment certificates to 15 transition committee members and commissioning certificates to 19 advisory committee members.
The committee was formed with individuals who have broad expertise and hands-on experience across all areas of district administration, reflecting Yoo's governing philosophy of nurturing the seeds sown together with Mapo residents over the years and sharing the fruits of that effort with the community.
Hwang In-guk, chairman of the Korea Youth Foundation, will lead the transition committee. Hwang previously served as chairman of the 7th elected term transition committee, where he worked alongside Yoo to lay out the blueprint for district governance.
The appointment draws on Hwang's proven leadership — which includes successfully steering the 7th elected term transition and serving as the second administrative vice mayor of Suwon Special City — to give concrete shape to the 9th elected term's governing vision and advance key policies without disruption.
"I will closely review the status of district projects and budget operations, and spare no effort to ensure a smooth handover," Hwang said. "I will faithfully carry out my responsibilities as transition committee chairman to ensure a successful launch for Mapo-gu's 9th elected term."
The committee draws experts from a wide range of fields, including social welfare, local government, community self-governance, youth, adolescents, culture and the arts, cultural tourism, policy, law, management, the environment and the local assembly.
Also notable is the inclusion of specialists in urban planning and AI.
The move reflects Yoo's stated commitment to fast-tracking redevelopment and reconstruction projects and realizing AI-driven administration — priorities he has long championed and now aims to translate into systematic policy from the transition stage onward.
The advisory committee, which will provide sharp analysis and in-depth counsel on district governance challenges, comprises experts active in fields such as startups, disability welfare, social enterprises, media, sports, residential affairs and brand design.
Particularly notable is the participation of a leading mental health expert. As the importance of mental well-being grows amid a rapidly changing social environment, the advisory committee is expected to offer effective policy guidance aimed at improving the psychological health of Mapo residents.
A representative of parents and a representative of university students will also serve as advisory members, bringing grassroots perspectives from daily life and contributing to the development of practical policies.
The broadly representative committee is expected to offer balanced policy directions encompassing all generations and communities — including the elderly, people with disabilities and youth — and to set the governing course for a forward-looking, innovative Mapo-gu in the 9th elected term.
"I sincerely thank Chairman Hwang In-guk and all the committee members who have willingly taken on this important responsibility for the future of Mapo," Yoo said. "I ask that you pool your valuable insights and wisdom so that Mapo's key issues and campaign pledges can take firm root."
