Daegu mayor-elect Choo Kyung-ho said Friday he would build a "one-team Daegu" framework by strengthening policy coordination between the city and its districts and counties and pooling administrative resources to respond swiftly to local issues.

Choo held a policy forum that day with nine district mayors and county chiefs elected in the June 3 local elections at the transition committee's main conference room.

The district and county leaders expressed broad agreement on the need for balanced regional development and held in-depth discussions on pressing issues facing their respective areas.

"District mayors and county chiefs know best what inconveniences and needs residents have, so keeping close communication with them will be my top priority in running city government," Choo said.

He added that residents do not see the city mayor and district mayors as separate entities. "Ultimately, what citizens want is better jobs, more convenient transportation and a more livable city — and that means the city and its districts and counties must move as one team," he said.

Choo said reviving the Daegu economy and reawakening the city's potential could not be achieved by city hall alone. "I will meet and communicate regularly with district mayors and county chiefs to tackle local challenges together," he said.
