Victim of Busan lamb skewer restaurant files tip with JTBC's 'Sageon Banjang'
A restaurant owner who took a customer's car without permission to run a grocery errand has drawn widespread public outrage. Anger intensified after the owner reportedly told the complaining customer, "Nothing happened, so what's the problem?"
According to JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," which aired Wednesday, a viewer identified as A said the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on June 1 at a lamb skewer restaurant in Busan.
A was dining with family when the owner approached and said the car needed to be moved. Assuming the owner would simply repark it nearby, A handed over the keys.
About 15 minutes later, A headed to the restroom and noticed the car was gone. While looking around for it, A spotted the owner pulling up from across the street — behind the wheel of A's vehicle.
Caught in the act, the owner reportedly fumbled for words and began unloading bags from the trunk.
A checked the dashcam footage and found that the owner had driven the car for roughly 20 minutes to visit a nearby supermarket.
When A confronted the owner, the response was: "Nothing happened, so it's fine. I'll give you something extra next time."
"I ended up settling for a refund of the 110,000 won (about $72) meal and left it at that," A said, adding that the tip was filed because "it was so absurd, and the owner didn't seem like someone doing this for the first time."
Online commenters reacted sharply, with many saying the incident should have been reported as vehicle theft. "That's someone else's property — unbelievable," one user wrote. Others speculated the owner likely drove recklessly since it was not their own car, and one quipped the 20-minute joyride amounted to a 110,000-won rental fee.
