Uiseong-gun in North Gyeongsang Province announced Friday it will extend by one year the permitted stay in temporary housing for wildfire victims, doubling the original one-year limit, to help stabilize their living conditions.

Residents currently in temporary housing have received various forms of support to repair damaged homes and rebuild their lives, but some have still been unable to secure stable long-term housing.

The extension follows consultations with affected residents and takes into account each household's housing situation and the progress of recovery efforts, with the aim of guaranteeing sufficient time to recover.

"We will do our utmost to ease housing insecurity through the extension and help wildfire victims return to stable lives," Uiseong-gun Mayor Kim Ju-su said.
