Global insurance conference KIIC draws record turnout; autonomous driving, AI and cyber risk in spotlight
South Korea's largest global insurance gathering, the 3rd Korea International Insurance Conference, wrapped up this week with record attendance.
Samsung Fire announced Friday that it served as lead sponsor of KIIC 2026, held June 10-11 at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
KIIC was established to strengthen the international competitiveness of South Korea's non-life insurance market and expand engagement with the global insurance industry. This year's conference centered on the theme "The Role of Non-Life Insurance in a Changing Risk Environment," with discussions focused on the future direction of the insurance sector.
"KIIC is cementing its position as a leading platform connecting Korea's insurance industry with global markets," Samsung Fire President Lee Mun-hwa said. "We will continue to expand cooperation between the domestic and international insurance industries and emerging sectors, contributing to Korea's insurance industry on the world stage."
The event drew more than 1,300 insurance professionals from 175 companies across 27 countries, setting a new attendance record. Major domestic non-life insurers and Korea Re gathered alongside global reinsurers including Munich Re and Swiss Re, international brokers such as Marsh and Aon, and specialist firms in cybersecurity and autonomous driving to explore collaboration opportunities between the insurance industry and emerging sectors. The number of participating countries grew by four from last year's second edition.
On the first day, the "The Link" safety network general assembly convened with participants from government, industry and academia to discuss responses to social risks under the theme "The Start of Cooperation for Addressing Protection Gaps and Connecting Solutions." The second day featured sessions on the global insurance industry outlook, the changes AI will bring to the sector, and future trends in global insurance. Keynote addresses by Aon and McKinsey opened the proceedings, followed by presentations and panel discussions involving Munich Re, Hyundai Motor Co. and Samsung Electronics, covering key issues for the future of insurance — including autonomous driving, cyber risk and AI applications.
