Virtual meeting set for 2 p.m. local time June 14

President Lee Jae Myung, currently on a state visit to Italy, will chair a video senior presidential staff meeting from Rome to review follow-up measures on the National Election Commission's ballot shortage crisis, Cheong Wa Dae said Wednesday.

Cheong Wa Dae chief spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told reporters at a press center set up in Rome that Lee will preside over the video senior staff meeting at 2 p.m. local time June 14 — 9 p.m. Korea time.

She said the agenda would include a review of a reform plan for a parliamentary investigation into the election commission, prepared by the Cheong Wa Dae political affairs office, as well as an update on the launch of a joint police-prosecution task force investigating the ballot shortage incident, prepared by the presidential civil affairs office.

The virtual meeting reflects Lee's intention to personally oversee urgent matters during the 10-day overseas trip, ensuring no governance vacuum arises in his absence.

Kang added that the regular senior staff meeting, normally held on Thursdays, would be convened on Friday, June 19 — the day after Lee's return. Public safety would be the top priority, she said, including a review of the summer natural disaster response system.
