Inauguration ceremony, first plenary session and signboard unveiling held Thursday at Gangnam-gu Health Center; committee to map out campaign pledges and district roadmap
Kim Hyun-gi, the incoming Gangnam-gu district mayor for the 9th directly elected term, formally launched his transition committee Thursday at a meeting room on the fifth floor of the Gangnam-gu Health Center, kicking off the official handover process.
The ceremony included the presentation of appointment certificates to transition and advisory committee members, followed by a signboard unveiling. Kim said he plans to use the committee's launch as a springboard for developing concrete strategies to fulfill his campaign pledges.
The committee is chaired by Kim Eui-seung, a former deputy mayor of the Seoul Metropolitan Government, with Kwon Oh-chul — a former deputy district mayor who served as acting Gangnam-gu district mayor — as vice chair. The 15-member panel draws on specialists across robotics, MICE, welfare and architecture, and will review the direction and execution strategies for the key campaign pledges of the incoming administration.
A separate advisory board of 26 members will provide expert guidance on major policies and pending issues, supporting the committee's policy review work.
Immediately after the launch ceremony, heads of Gangnam-gu's departments, offices and affiliated institutions briefed Kim on key pending issues and priority projects.
The transition committee plans to use those briefings to conduct a thorough review of the district's current affairs and analyze the conditions for advancing each campaign pledge in line with the 9th-term vision of "Gangnam with vigor, residents with joy." The goal is to produce a workable policy roadmap with a phased implementation plan.
"Drawing on the expertise and experience of the transition committee, I will move swiftly to prepare the changes Gangnam needs," Kim said. "I will translate the key campaign pledges into concrete action plans and make the great transformation of Gangnam in the 9th term a reality."
Observers inside and outside Gangnam-gu expect Kim — a four-term Seoul city council member and former speaker of the Seoul Metropolitan Council — to leverage his extensive administrative and political experience to secure new growth engines for the district and accelerate resident-focused policies. With the transition committee now up and running, a full-scale review of the feasibility and priorities of his campaign pledges is also expected to get underway.
