Ryu Sam-young has officially received his certificate of election as district chief-elect of Dongjak-gu, Seoul.

According to the Dongjak-gu mayoral transition committee, the Dongjak-gu Election Commission held the 9th National Simultaneous Local Elections Certificate Presentation Ceremony at its multipurpose conference room Wednesday afternoon, presenting certificates to Ryu and other winning candidates for metropolitan and local assembly seats in the district. In his acceptance remarks, Ryu said he would "humbly serve the will of both those who supported me and those who did not, and once again set the engine of Dongjak-gu's growth in motion." He added, "Let us all move forward together for the future of Dongjak-gu, with our eyes fixed solely on the residents."

Immediately after the ceremony, Ryu joined other newly elected officials from the district in visiting Seoul National Cemetery, where they laid flowers and paid their respects.

During the evening rush hour, he greeted residents at Heukseok Station, Isu Station and Sadang Station to thank them for their support. Earlier that morning, he had also greeted commuters at Daebang Station and Noryangjin Station.

In the June 3 local elections, Ryu won 98,913 votes — a 45.76 percent share — to finish first and claim the Dongjak-gu district chief seat for the ninth term of civilian government. A total of 21 candidates were elected in Dongjak-gu, including Ryu, four metropolitan assembly members and 17 local assembly members, two of whom were elected through proportional representation.

Ryu is a fourth-cohort graduate of the Korean National Police University and spent 35 years in the police force. He drew national attention for leading a superintendent-general conference in opposition to the Yoon Suk Yeol administration's establishment of a police bureau within the Interior Ministry. He later entered politics on the strength of his public-service career.
