A man in his 50s was arrested after groping female high school students on a field trip to Jeju Island and assaulting male classmates who tried to stop him.
The Jeju Eastern Police Station said Thursday it had booked the man, identified only as A, on charges of forced indecent conduct under the Act on the Protection of Children and Youth Against Sexual Abuse, as well as assault, and is investigating the case.
A is accused of drunkenly approaching four or five female high school students on a school trip at a traditional market in Jeju on Tuesday afternoon, putting his arms around their shoulders and committing other acts of groping.
He is also accused of getting into a confrontation with male students from the same school who tried to intervene and punching them in the face.
A was arrested at the scene by officers who responded to a report of the incident.
Police have applied for a detention warrant and are continuing to investigate the full circumstances of the case.
