Prediction markets draw millions in wagers as reports swirl about pop star Taylor Swift's upcoming wedding

Reports that pop superstar Taylor Swift's wedding is drawing near have sent bettors rushing to prediction markets, with wagers on the ceremony surpassing $2 million (about 3.05 billion won).
According to The New York Times and The Times, bets placed on prediction platform Kalshi related to Swift's marriage have reached $2 million. The reports were published Wednesday local time.
Of that total, $1.49 million has been staked on the wedding venue. New York currently leads the predictions, with Pennsylvania and Tennessee each trailing at 2 percent probability.
Bettors are also wagering on the guest list and the timing of the wedding.
On another prediction platform, Polymarket, bets on the guest list have reached $300,000. An additional $230,000 has been wagered on whether Swift will become pregnant before the wedding.
CNN described the wedding as the most anticipated cultural event since the 2011 marriage of Britain's Prince William and Kate Middleton.
No official information about the wedding has been released. Entertainment outlet TMZ, citing sources, reported that Swift and her partner have rented Madison Square Garden in New York for at least three days and plan to hold the ceremony on July 3.
Madison Square Garden serves as the home arena of the NBA's New York Knicks and has hosted legendary performers including Michael Jackson, Madonna and Billy Joel.

Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce, who are the same age, have been in a public relationship since the summer of 2023. Kelce has said he visited one of Swift's concerts hoping to hand her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it, but failed to reach her — and that Swift later reached out after hearing the story, sparking their relationship.
The couple subsequently announced their engagement on Instagram.
Swift has been on a remarkable commercial run, with her 12th studio album, "The Life of a Showgirl," released last year sweeping the singles chart from No. 1 through No. 12.
The album also topped the Billboard 200. It marked the seventh time Swift had simultaneously held the No. 1 spot on both the singles and albums charts — more than any other artist in history.
"The Life of a Showgirl" sold 3,479,500 copies in its first week, surpassing the previous record held by Adele and setting the highest first-week sales figure since Billboard began tracking album sales data electronically in 1991.
