Online applications open June 15 through June 26 for unemployed youth aged 19–29 residing in Yangcheon-gu; 20 general and 30 specialized positions available; selected interns work four weeks starting July 20
Yangcheon-gu is recruiting participants for its "2026 Second-Half Youth Administrative Internship" program, offering local youth opportunities to build job skills and explore career paths in the public sector.
A total of 50 interns will be selected — 20 for the general track and 30 for the specialized track.
General-track interns will assist with administrative work at neighborhood community centers, libraries and support centers. Specialized-track interns will be placed at the district office, welfare centers and community learning hubs across three areas: administration, welfare and learning mentorship.
The learning mentorship program is a differentiated initiative unique to Yangcheon-gu, in which administrative interns serve as mentors providing academic guidance and emotional encouragement to elementary and middle school students in the district. It offers participants meaningful experience in education-sector career exploration and community contribution.
Applicants must be registered residents of Yangcheon-gu as of the application start date and must be college students or unemployed youth between the ages of 19 and 29. Both enrolled and leave-of-absence students are eligible, and unemployed youth are defined as those not enrolled in employment insurance. Veterans may have the upper age limit extended by up to three years depending on their length of service.
Interested applicants can apply online through the Yangcheon-gu district office website from June 15 through June 26. Those who participated in the same program within the past year are not eligible to apply.
Final selections for the general track will be made by computerized lottery, while the specialized track will involve a first-round lottery followed by a second-round review evaluating cover letters and interest in district administration. Results will be announced July 2 on the Yangcheon-gu district office website.
Selected interns will work five days a week, five hours a day (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), from July 20 to Aug. 14. Pay will be calculated at the 2026 Yangcheon-gu living wage rate, with full attendance earning approximately 1.44 million won ($946).
To improve the program's effectiveness, Yangcheon-gu split the internship into general and specialized tracks and added the learning mentorship category in 2024. Last year, the district expanded eligibility beyond college students to include unemployed youth aged 19 to 29, allowing more young people to participate.
Yangcheon-gu District Mayor Lee Gi-jae said he hopes the internship will serve as a valuable stepping stone for youth to understand public service and build practical skills. "We will continue to expand opportunities for young people to participate in district administration and pursue systematic, effective and tailored policies that allow them to demonstrate their capabilities," he said.
