A worker suffered serious injuries after her arm became caught in a machine at the Shany factory in Daegu.

The accident occurred at 9:38 a.m. Wednesday at the Shany factory in Nongong-eup, Dalseong-gun, Daegu, when a Vietnamese woman in her 40s, identified only by her surname, caught her right arm in a bread dough alignment machine while working, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The woman sustained deep lacerations to her right arm and was taken to a hospital.

The incident follows a separate accident at the SPC Samlip Sihwa factory on April 10, in which two workers — one in their 20s and one in their 30s — had fingers severed.

President Lee Jae-myung ordered a "thorough investigation" into that case, and police formed a dedicated investigative team.

The Chemical and Food Workers' Union issued a statement strongly condemning what it called "SPC Group's barbaric conduct."

The union said that following the finger amputation accident at the Samlip Sihwa factory, it had held special negotiations with management at the request of its SPC Samlip chapter and secured a pledge of follow-up measures to prevent further accidents. It said another industrial accident had now occurred at Shany, an SPC Group affiliate, and called on the Ministry of Employment and Labor and police to thoroughly investigate and strictly punish the management officials responsible for the repeated serious workplace accidents.

Police and labor authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident and whether the Occupational Safety and Health Act was violated.
