2.3 km course at Ttukseom Han River Park on June 14; 10 teams, 30 participants with infants and toddlers
Seoul's Gwangjin-gu district will host a stroller running program for families with infants and toddlers at Ttukseom Han River Park on June 14, the district office announced Thursday.
The event was inspired by the success of the district's "pregnancy slow-run" program, held in April and May — the first of its kind among local districts nationwide — which recorded a 94 percent participant satisfaction rate. The inaugural slow run took place April 25, with 10 couples completing a 2.5-kilometer course around Children's Grand Park.
Like its predecessor, the stroller run is a family wellness program giving caregivers who struggle to find time for exercise a chance to stay active alongside their children and create lasting memories outdoors.
Ten family teams totaling 30 participants will take part. After a warm-up and stretching session, they will walk and jog together along a gentle 2.3-kilometer stretch of Ttukseom Han River Park while pushing their strollers.
On-site health services tailored to caregivers will also be available. District health officials plan to provide information on maternal and child health programs and childhood vaccination schedules, along with depression screening through a contactless QR-code mental health consultation service — covering key health needs across pregnancy, childbirth and child-rearing.
"If the pregnancy slow run was the first step toward a healthy birth, this stroller run is a new starting point for parents and children to build a healthy everyday life together," Gwangjin-gu Mayor Kim Gyeong-ho said. "We will continue to expand tailored health programs that residents can feel in their daily lives throughout every stage of pregnancy, childbirth and parenting."
