PTPI holds 3rd World Children's Art Exchange Exhibition through Saturday
Drawings by children from around the world imagining what "peace" looks like are on display at Gallery Q on Wangsaengi-gil in Nam-gu, Ulsan, through Saturday. Families who submitted entries from abroad are also taking part, drawing considerable attention to the exhibition.
People to People International (PTPI) Ulsan Chapter, led by President Kang Eung-gyu, organized the 3rd World Children's Art Exchange Exhibition under the theme "For Peace" to mark the 104th Children's Day, displaying all 111 submitted works at the venue.
This year's exhibition drew 111 children from nine countries — South Korea, Bangladesh, Japan, China, Malaysia, Mongolia, the Philippines, Thailand and Taiwan. The Ulsan Chapter assembled a five-member panel of experts to evaluate entries on artistic quality, creativity and thematic expression.
Baek Seo-a, 8, of the More, Spring Art Psychology Counseling Center in Nam-gu, Ulsan, took the domestic grand prize with "We're All Friends Meow!" (acrylic and mixed media, <style ref="s1">pictured above</style>). The work, rendered on eighth-sheet drawing paper, portrays the world's racial groups — white, yellow and black — as animals, carrying the message that people of all backgrounds can build a peaceful world together.
Manasnun Amorn Mongkol Wat, 11, of Thailand, won the overseas grand prize with "Land of Peace" (oil pastel and mixed media, <style ref="s2">pictured below</style>). Also on eighth-sheet paper, the work uses a yellow-and-navy complementary color contrast to illuminate peace-symbolizing birds moving from dark tones into light, making the theme its visual centerpiece.
Three special prizes — awarded to the next-highest-scoring entries after the grand prizes — went to Huang Jia-yan, 12, of China, for "On the Wings of Communication" (International Friendship Award); Inaya Farooq Omera, 11, of Bangladesh, for "Dreaming of Peace" (Cultural Exchange Award); and Chang Jia-yu, 7, of Taiwan, for "Enjoying the Lanterns" (Creative Arts Award).
Shim Sang-cheol, a painter with the Korea Fine Arts Association who served as chief judge, said this year's entries were of very high quality, with children's sincere passion for world peace expressed through a wide range of techniques and formats.
