World ranking points that will determine which golfers compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics began counting this week, two years out from the Games.
According to the International Golf Federation (IGF), Olympic golf ranking points for the women's individual event started accruing June 8, while points for the men's individual event begin June 22. The field for both events will be finalized in June 2028, just before the Games open.
Sixty players will compete in each of the men's and women's individual events. Any player ranked in the top 15 of the Olympic golf rankings qualifies, though each country is limited to a maximum of four players per individual event. The women's field will be set on June 5, 2028, and the men's field on June 19, 2028.
The LA Olympics will introduce a mixed team event for the first time. Sixteen national teams will compete, with each country fielding one man and one woman who have already qualified for their respective individual events.
Olympic golf at the LA Games will be held at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, near Los Angeles — the same course that hosted the US Women's Open last week. The men's individual event is scheduled for July 19-22, 2028, the mixed team event for July 23-24, and the women's individual event for July 26-29, all in local time.
