BBQ is considering launching a set menu built around the chicken and beer combination that Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang ordered during his visit to one of the chain's Seoul branches.
Industry sources said Wednesday that BBQ is reviewing plans for a set menu based on what Huang ordered at its Hongdae branch on June 5, when he dined with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Naver Chairman Lee Hae-jin. The move comes as growing numbers of customers have been requesting the same combination after Huang's order drew widespread attention.
Huang's group reportedly ordered eight pieces of chicken — including Golden Olive Chicken and Golden Olive Half-and-Half Chicken — along with Terra draft beer, dried pollack, fried squid and tteokbokki. A Genesis BBQ Group spokesperson said the company is "planning a set menu and marketing promotions related to CEO Huang."
A similar effect played out during Huang's visit to South Korea last year, when Kkanbu Chicken gained significant publicity after he stopped by its Samseong-dong branch in Seoul with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Euisun Chung for chimaek — fried chicken and beer. Kkanbu Chicken subsequently launched an "AI Kkanbu Set" modeled on what Huang's party ate that day. Huang also met with Chairman Chey on June 7 at Kkanbu Chicken's Samseong branch in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
