A woman is considering divorce after discovering that her mother-in-law had secretly watched a home security camera installed in her baby's room for six months.
The story was shared on Blind, an anonymous online community for office workers, under the title "My mother-in-law who had been watching the baby room CCTV behind my back for six months."
The woman, identified only as A, said she received an urgent call from her mother-in-law one morning.
The mother-in-law asked to speak with her son and told him to make sure A could not hear the conversation — but A had already heard everything through the speakerphone.
The mother-in-law told her son she could see the baby crying alone in a corner on the nursery camera and urged him to go check on the child.
It was only then that A realized the home security camera was connected to her mother-in-law's phone — and that this had been the case for six months without her knowledge.
When A asked her husband why, he said he had set it up because his mother wanted to see her grandchild.
A said she was furious because the camera did not just capture the crib — it recorded the entire room with live audio. Her mother-in-law had been able to see the couple argue and share intimate moments. A's own mother had also been recorded during visits when she stayed in the room to care for the baby.
A confronted both her husband and mother-in-law. The mother-in-law said her son had set it up and that she had barely watched. Her husband, however, turned the situation around and snapped at A, asking whether she had something to hide.
A said she has since moved back to her parents' home and is now thinking about divorce.
Online commenters reacted strongly to the story. "This is genuinely shocking," one wrote. Others said the husband's attitude was more troubling than the mother-in-law's behavior, called it surveillance of a daughter-in-law's privacy, and questioned whether it could constitute grounds for divorce.
