Hands-on programs on environmental protection, recycling and carbon neutrality
Everyday eco-messages aimed at raising climate crisis awareness
Philip Morris Korea said it held an environmental campaign called "Ssudam Yangsan" with residents of Yangsan to mark World Environment Day on June 5.
The campaign was part of Yangsan City's 31st World Environment Day commemoration. More than 1,000 residents attended, along with Philip Morris Korea Yangsan factory manager Haroon Bashir and Yangsan Mayor Na Dong-yeon.
Now in its third year, "Ssudam Yangsan" is an interactive campaign designed to help citizens understand everyday environmental issues and experience firsthand the importance of practicing carbon neutrality.
On-site activities included making Jibbitz charms from waste materials, sock-yarn art, a recycling-themed cornhole game and a tablet-based true-or-false quiz. Participants also took part in a fingerprint tree installation, a photo wall and a "Citizens Pedaling to Light the Earth" performance using self-powered bicycles.
In the afternoon, a commemorative ceremony was followed by a special lecture on the greenhouse effect and carbon neutrality by "Hangseong," a creator behind the science YouTube channel "Andoel Science."
"We hope this serves as an opportunity for citizens to more easily take part in environmental action," Yangsan factory manager Haroon Bashir said. "We will continue working with the local community to drive sustainable change."
