An SK Hynix employee who crowdfunded donations through an anonymous workplace community has completed a library renovation at a children's home in Sejong.
A post titled "Hey everyone, part three of the money bragging you've been waiting for is here" appeared Saturday on Blind, an anonymous professional community app. The author, identified only as an SK Hynix employee, wrote that a fundraising relay for a library had grown out of an initial donation to a children's home in February, and that the library renovation was now complete.
Before-and-after photos shared in the post showed a cramped room cluttered with boxes and folding desks transformed into a study space with learning desks and chairs arranged along the windows. Bookshelves were filled with books, and the bathroom was renovated with new fixtures.
"We wanted to create an even better space than originally planned, but there were limits because it is a government-affiliated facility — administrative procedures and bidding requirements got in the way," the employee wrote. "Still, I'm grateful that we were able to renovate the old bathroom and give the children a place to study and read."
The employee also asked whether anyone had unused air purifiers, home audio equipment, game consoles or comic books to donate, adding: "Even if we don't leave a great mark on the world, it means something just to have given these children warmth and care."
The project began in February when the same employee posted a message titled "Monday — let me brag a little, I went and spent some money," describing a visit to a children's home in Sejong where they delivered pizza, fruit and snacks. Within 10 days, more than 350 people had joined the effort, raising about 32 million won (about $20,700), and a pizza company pledged monthly recurring donations.
Online commenters responded warmly. "Not everyone with money shares it," one wrote. "I only gave a small amount but it feels worthwhile," said another. A third summed up the mood: "This kind of money bragging is always welcome."
SK Hynix posted record sales of 97.15 trillion won and operating profit of 47.21 trillion won last year, the best results in the company's history. On the strength of those earnings, the company paid performance bonuses of around 150 million won to employees earning roughly 100 million won annually.
