'Dongbu Expressway underground project to be pursued responsibly'

Daewoo Engineering & Construction announced Monday that it held a commemorative tree-planting and ecological restoration event along the Jungnangcheon stream in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on June 5 to mark World Environment Day, in partnership with the Seongdong-gu district office and the social cooperative Han River.

The event was part of an ongoing Jungnangcheon ecological restoration project. Daewoo Engineering & Construction CEO Kim Bo-hyun, Seongdong-gu Deputy District Mayor Ko Gwang-hyeon and representatives from the social cooperative Han River attended.

Attendees planted maple trees along the Jungnangcheon and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing ecological restoration through public-private collaboration. More than 100 Daewoo Engineering & Construction employees also took part in removing invasive species and managing vegetation in the area.

"The maple trees we planted today carry the meaning of a sustainable environment and community coexistence that Seongdong-gu, the social cooperative Han River and Daewoo Engineering & Construction are building together," CEO Kim said. "Just as these trees take deep root and grow along the Jungnangcheon, I hope today's partnership will endure and become a symbol that passes positive values on to our community and future generations."

Kim added that the company would pursue the Dongbu Expressway underground project, currently underway in Seongdong-gu, "responsibly, with full consideration for the community, the environment and the lives of residents."

A company official said Daewoo Engineering & Construction would continue to contribute to sustainable environmental stewardship and community development through the Jungnangcheon ecological restoration project and a range of other environmental, social and governance activities.

Meanwhile, Daewoo Engineering & Construction conducted ecological restoration volunteer work and eco-friendly habitat development along the Jungnangcheon in May. The company has also completed "Daewoo Engineering & Construction Nature," an ecological garden themed around otters.
