Pohang Mayor-elect Park Yong-seon announced Sunday that he will officially launch a transition committee to oversee the handover of city administration ahead of his inauguration as the city's eighth directly elected mayor.

The committee's inaugural ceremony is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Pohang Advanced Marine R&D Center, with Park and roughly 100 transition committee members and advisers expected to attend.

The committee will operate under four subcommittees — autonomous administration, economic industry, welfare and environment, and construction and urban affairs — along with two task forces for planning and coordination and for city administration reform.

Members were selected for their expertise and hands-on experience across public administration, local politics, economics and industry, law, small business, welfare and public health, and urban planning.

Former North Gyeongsang Province political vice governor Kong Won-sik will chair the committee, with former North Gyeongsang provincial lawmaker Lee Chil-gu serving as vice chair. Do Seong-hyeon, a former Pohang civil servant, will lead the city administration reform task force.

The economic industry subcommittee will include Postech professor Shin Hun-gyu, Handong University professor Lee Jae-young and Uiduk University professor Kim Ye-jeong. The welfare and environment subcommittee will include Handong University professor Jeong Suk-hee, Seongun University professor Lee Jeong-mi and former Pohang Pharmacists Association president Kim Jin to review policy.

Pohang city lawmaker Kim Ha-young, along with Handong University professors Kim Ju-il and Yang Hee-jin, will sit on the construction and urban affairs subcommittee.

Kim Jong-ik, a member of the autonomous administration subcommittee and a Pohang city lawmaker, will serve as spokesperson to facilitate public communication and outreach.

Starting Wednesday, a policy suggestion section will open on the Pohang city government website, allowing residents to submit ideas to be reflected in the incoming administration's policy direction.

Pohang city will second 23 working-level civil servants at team-leader rank or below to support the committee.

"This transition committee was assembled around expertise, hands-on experience and the ability to deliver real results — not titles or prestige," Park said. "We will do our utmost to ensure that specialists in each field listen directly to citizens and craft policies that bring meaningful change to people's lives."
