The global operations team of HoYoverse, the interactive entertainment brand behind the worldwide hit Genshin Impact, visited Hanyang University to share insights on user-generated content.

Hanyang University announced Friday that HoYoverse's global operations team delivered a special lecture at the university's Humanities Building in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, on May 27. The lecture focused on real-world case studies in building a user-generated content ecosystem within Genshin Impact's Imaginarium Theater.

The event was part of the curriculum for the Art Technology track offered by the university's School of Future Humanities Convergence within the College of Humanities. The track is grounded in a humanistic understanding of art, design and technology. It provides students from a range of majors with a curriculum that lets them practice, apply and develop interdisciplinary thinking and hands-on skills through collaboration.

Around 100 students attended, with representatives from HoYoverse's global operations team for Genshin Impact's Imaginarium Theater serving as speakers. Imaginarium Theater is a core content platform within Genshin Impact that lets users create and play stages across a variety of genres, including management simulation, party games and adventure.

The platform was built on the creative demand that players had accumulated since Genshin Impact's launch. HoYoverse currently operates a wide support system — encompassing a creator center, tutorial content, community channels, a recommendation system and an incentive program — to expand its global creative ecosystem.

Three speakers from HoYoverse's Imaginarium Theater global operations team took the stage, sharing experiences that included the ongoing development of the in-game editor tool used for virtual world creation, examples of standout user-created content, and strategies for building a sustainable creator ecosystem.

Particularly popular were the behind-the-scenes details on the broader operation of the game's UGC ecosystem — covering creator support and incentive structures, content distribution and monetization strategies — topics that drew by far the most attention from students.

A question-and-answer and discussion session followed the lecture. Students posed questions on topics ranging from UGC ideas and stage design for Imaginarium Theater to the intersection of generative AI and creative work, the future of subculture and the global gaming industry, and career development, drawing in-depth responses from the speakers.

A representative from Hanyang University's School of Future Humanities Convergence said the event gave students a meaningful opportunity to experience firsthand how humanistic competencies are essential to the design and global success of game content platforms — the embodiment of convergence across art, design and technology.
