Alumni of Yeungnam University donated a combined 130 million won ($85,000) to the school's development fund at the 23rd Yeungnam University President's Cup Golf Tournament, held May 29 at Solmoro Country Club in Yeoju, Gyeonggi Province, the university said Friday.

The event drew 144 participants — including members of the Seoul Alumni Association, the General Alumni Association and other university affiliates — competing in 36 teams in a shotgun format, with all groups teeing off simultaneously. The gathering offered an opportunity for exchange and fellowship between the university and its alumni.

The donations reflected the alumni's steady support for their alma mater. Kang Sam-seok, chief executive of Masangsoft Co. and a 1986 economics graduate, contributed 100 million won, while Son Je-hong (business administration, class of 1981) gave 15 million won. Kim Jae-wan, chairman of the Seoul Alumni Association and a 1976 electrical engineering graduate, and Vice Chairman Kwon Sun-dae (trade, 1982) each donated 5 million won. Jin Yong-gyun (economics, 1991) contributed 3 million won and Lee Won-ho (architecture, 1985) gave 2 million won.

"The precious development funds our alumni have gathered will be used not only to advance the university, but to nurture talent that contributes to the prosperity of humanity," Yeungnam University President Choi Oe-chul said.
