Only IPTV provider to sponsor festival for 6 consecutive years
71 features and shorts on climate, biodiversity and environmental justice offered free
SK Broadband will offer key selections from the Seoul International Environmental Film Festival free of charge on B tv.
The company announced Friday it will operate a "B tv Special Channel" on B tv and mobile B tv from Saturday through June 30, featuring major titles from the 23rd Seoul International Environmental Film Festival.
The Seoul International Environmental Film Festival is South Korea's leading film festival dedicated to environmental issues. SK Broadband is the only one of the three major IPTV providers to have sponsored the festival for six consecutive years, and this year will again offer the festival's key titles free to B tv customers.
The special channel will carry 71 domestic and international features and short films covering themes including climate change, biodiversity, environmental justice and resource recycling.
Among the featured full-length films is "9/11: Reclaiming Ground Zero," directed by Josh Seftel. The film follows New York residents as they seek their own answers amid conflict over the future of the Ground Zero site in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Also screening is "Dust to Dust," directed by Kosai Sekine, which traces a journey from a clothing waste landfill in Kenya to the Paris runway to explore the possibilities of sustainable fashion.
Among the short films is "Grace," directed by Dina Mwende and Yulia Dar, which tells the story of a rural Kenyan family struggling with climate change through the eyes of 13-year-old Grace.
The full lineup is available on the Seoul International Environmental Film Festival's official website.
"For six consecutive years we have sponsored the Seoul International Environmental Film Festival, working to help customers engage with environmental issues through film in an easy and accessible way," said Park Cham-sol, SK Broadband's platform director. "We hope the B tv Special Channel — where every film is available free — gives more customers the opportunity to encounter stories about the planet and the environment."
Meanwhile, SK Broadband has been pursuing eco-friendly management practices, including introducing hybrid cooling systems at its data centers and launching the "Smart 3" set-top box, which cuts carbon emissions by more than 80 percent compared with conventional models. Last year, to mark its 28th anniversary, the company also held a "plogging" volunteer event combining walking with environmental cleanup.
