Actor Kim Soo-hyun's agency, Gold Medalist, expressed gratitude to investigators, the judiciary and fans Friday after police decided to detain and refer Kim Se-eui — head of the YouTube channel "Garosero Research Institute" — to prosecutors over a criminal complaint filed by Kim Soo-hyun and the agency.
Gold Medalist released a copy of the investigation result notice Friday, saying police had confirmed charges including defamation through false statements under the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, violations of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes involving the distribution of recordings made with cameras, attempted coercion and intimidation. "Considering the gravity of the case, police detained Kim Se-eui and referred him to prosecutors," the agency said.
Gold Medalist also expressed deep appreciation to those who had spoken out on Kim Soo-hyun's behalf while he waited for the legal process to run its course, even though they were not direct parties to the case.
The agency added thanks to those who had investigated and reported on the case directly to uncover the truth, as well as everyone who helped bring the full facts to wider public attention.
The agency reserved particular thanks for investigators who had worked quietly behind the scenes, relying solely on evidence and facts, and for the judiciary for making a fair and firm decision on the suspect's detention.
Gold Medalist also extended its gratitude to fans. "Above all, we sincerely thank the fans who have cheered for Kim Soo-hyun and stood by him throughout this long ordeal," the agency said. "Your belief and support were a great source of strength during a very difficult time."
Kim Se-eui faces charges of spreading false information through YouTube broadcasts and other platforms between March and May last year, alleging that Kim Soo-hyun had dated the late actor Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor and that pressure from Kim Soo-hyun's side over debt repayment was responsible for her death.
He also faces charges of defaming Kim Soo-hyun by using AI to manipulate Kim Sae-ron's voice and fabricate a recording in which she purportedly claimed to have had sexual relations with Kim Soo-hyun for the first time during winter break of her second year of middle school.
