Kim Jin-yeol of the People Power Party won re-election as Gunwi-gun county chief in Daegu in the 9th nationwide local elections held Thursday.

"This victory belongs not to Kim Jin-yeol alone, but to every resident of Gunwi-gun," Kim said in his acceptance remarks. "I am deeply grateful to the residents who believed in me and supported me to the end."

He said the election had brought out a range of views, but the time had come for everyone to unite behind the county's future. "We must move beyond division and come together in harmony," he said, "and I will open a new path for Gunwi-gun's development alongside its residents."

Kim also reflected on the past four years, during which Gunwi-gun was administratively transferred from North Gyeongsang Province to Daegu. "We laid the groundwork for key projects that will shape the next 100 years — including the TK New Airport and the military base relocation," he said. "Now I will turn that foundation into tangible results that residents can feel in their daily lives."

Kim pledged to govern with humility. "I will listen more closely to residents, embrace them more broadly, and work harder than ever," he said. "I will be a county chief who works close to people's lives, proves his promises through action, and raises the pride of Gunwi-gun."
