Independent candidate Park Kwon-hyeon was elected county chief of Cheongdo-gun in the 9th nationwide simultaneous local elections.
Park, the Cheongdo-gun county chief-elect, said Thursday that the victory "belongs not to Park Kwon-hyeon as an individual, but to all the great residents of Cheongdo who yearned for change and chose a new future."
He thanked residents for their support throughout the campaign. "The passionate encouragement and sharp criticism you sent my way during the election — I know both were expressions of deep love for Cheongdo," he said.
Park also pledged to embrace voters who had backed other candidates. "I will hold in my heart the wishes of those who supported me as well as those who supported other candidates, and unite them all under one Hana Cheongdo," he said. "I will carry this precious outcome, made together by all residents, deep in my heart."
"The election is over, and now is the time for unity and a leap forward," Park said. "I will be a county chief who listens to every resident without division, who acts rather than just talks. I will never lose sight of my original resolve, serve as the most faithful public servant of the people of Cheongdo-gun, and open a great new era for Cheongdo."
